Shanghai Green Event Jan. 14 – Flow: For Love of Water Documentary Screening
Thursday, January 8, 2009 8:35The Flow documentary investigates the most important political, social and environmental issue of the 21st century – as it examines our dwindling fresh water supply on the global level through the lens of multinationals, pollution, and the emergence of a domineering world water cartel.
Irena Salina’s award-winning documentary investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century: The World Water Crisis. The film is a hard hitting realization that water comes at a price far greater than the one paid when purchasing it from the store. Salina builds a case against the growing privatization of the world’s dwindling fresh water supply with an unflinching focus on politics, pollution, human rights, and the emergence of a domineering world water cartel.
The film concentrates on the big business of privatization of water which prioritizes profits over the availability of clean water for people and the environment. Major businesses depicted in the film are Nestle, The Coca-Cola Company, Suez (company), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Following the screening, Charlie McElwee of Squire, Sanders, and Dempsey and China Environmental Law Blog will discuss China’s water crisis in the context of the film and Max Henry and Richard Brubaker will moderate a discussion on these issues as they relate to China.
