Organic Certifcations: Green N Safe

Perhaps one of the biggest problems in China’s Organic industry is that there are a number of labels, several certifications, and consumer trust in any of these is poor.

So, when visiting the Organic Hotpot on Shanxi road, I was intrigued by the restaurant’s Green N Safe certification.

A coalition of three groups, 2 based in Taiwan and 1 in Shanghai, offers a certification under the logo , while also offering the ability to order its weekly “treasure Chests” (click here for picture) that include:

Contains a wealth of various vegetables, meat, fish, beans, eggs, rice, fruits, and unique foods.

The pricing is broken into four levels between 500 – 1000RMB per week.  A bit expensive, and what is more interesting/ annoying is that signing up for a 26 week commitment gives you no discount at all over a 1 week.

Long term though, Green N Safe’s plan to become a trusted certification is something that I see as perhaps being their best strategy.  It will be a process that will take years to fully develop, but if they are able to continue working through restaurants that others trust, and their products are introduced into retails stores, then their process will be strengthened through that.
