Shanghai Green Roof

Perhaps one of the best things about working with people passionate about the environment, sustainability, and the power of education is that you come up with a huge idea.

Like greening a 400 square meter roof in the middle of downtown Shanghai

Green Roofs are something in China that have yet to really get much traction, and when they do, they are more likely to be of the astroterf variety than to be of live botanic variety.

So, we set out to change all that, and are happy to announce that as part of a wider Earth Day event platform, Hands On Shanghai and Greenovate will be installing one of Shanghai’s first true green roofs.

The first one (picture above), is going to be a bit of trial and error with our hopes to develop several others that will over the long term not only produce produce, but will become platforms that teach others about the value of nature within the city.

So, if you are in Shanghai on the 22nd (3 weeks away) and want to participate, please let us know.  We are looking for corporate partners, green thumbs, volunteers, a jazz band, and the curious.
