Roots creep underground everywhere and make a firm foundation. Shoots seem very weak, but to reach the light, they can break open brick walls. Imagine that the brick walls are all the problems we have inflicted on our planet. During the National Holiday this October, Leigh Billings (a fellow green activist living in Shanghai) will take to the mountains of Yunnan and Sichuan to help establish Roots and Shoots environmental groups for children in the provinces’ rural areas. What makes this endeavor even better is the fact that she will be traveling by bike for over 400 km while she makes stops along the way to meet future groups, participate in environmental activities with them and raise money for their teachers’ training and materials.

Day 3: Lugu Lake (Yunnan side) [60-100km]
Day 4: Lugu Lake (Sichuan side) [26km]
Day 5: Yanyuan [62-126km]
Day 6: Yang Tang [73km]
Day 7: Xicheng [72-105km]
Day 8: Chengdu [60km]

In an effort to raise money for the trip, Leigh is hosting a charity event on Friday September 11^th at Bell Bar and Café (see link for directions: http://www.bellbar.cn/). There will be live music at 9 and a raffle drawing for R&S memorabilia.  Half of all the money spent on drinks will go towards the cause, so if you are looking for a way to unwind after a long week at work, why not have a cold one for a good cause?
