Overview With the recent news of a 25-year-old committing suicide at Foxconn over the possible theft of a new iPhone, the debate over the responsibility foreign firms have for the way suppliers manage labour was re-ignited. It is a decades-old issue, highlighted in the West through books such as Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle and high profile media stories such as the 1997 Nike labour scandal. It is an issue that continues to raise its head throughout many supply chains rooted in Asia.

Overview

The environmental crisis that our modern society faces is a cultural crisis in essence. This crisis can not be solved only by technical and economic means, but instead, it needs a radical change of ideas. As a sustained cultural form that seeks a coordinated development between humans and nature, ecological culture must be based on holist philosophy and the values of ecology and view ecologist thinking pattern and deep-structure ecological awareness as its content core. The world outlook and methodology that the results of the studies of ecology have demonstrated have supplied a solid foundation for the building of the concept of an ecological culture.

Recent years, more and more institutional investors overseas are concerned with target firm’s social performance in choosing investment targets, that is Social Responsible Investment SRI. SRI through changing the ethics notion of General Managers thus creates ethical impact on General Manager’s operation behaviors.

From the perspective of organization, SRI notion will help form ethical managers, thus shaping good ethic atmosphere, make effective loyal principles. The making of ethic principles will reinforce the shaping of ethic atmosphere, so eventually enhance the organization’s whole ethics status.

Since WWII, Japanese firms start to adopt internal control governance structure. The reason is the ethics character of Japanese firms that determine its business development model. From board governance, shareholders ethics and bank ethics three dimensions all demonstrate the unique character of Japanese firms’ governance.

With the changing external environment, the governance model and ethics notion of Japanese firms is consistently changing, the logic relations of two things determine the innovation and development direction of Japanese firm governance model.
